Startup Saturday: Mobilliance 2013” Brings the Best of Mobile Startups Together on 12 October 2013

Startup HK Mobile Conference

Hong Kong’s premiere startup network StartupsHK and the SME Creativity Center are jointly presenting a one-day conference showcasing the best mobile startups in Hong Kong, gathering everything in the Hong Kong mobile industry from the entrepreneurs to the investors called: Startup Saturday: Mobiliance 2013.

In Hong Kong 96% of the users browse the Internet daily with their smartphones, which is the highest rate in Asia. This year alone, 82% use their smartphones every day, and 77% never leave home without their devices. Meanwhile, the local smartphone penetration rate has been growing rapidly to 63% in 2013.* It is obvious that smartphone user behaviors in Hong Kong are frequent and have obviously reached a mature level.

Behind this irresistible trend there are a group of startups and entrepreneurs who are ambitions and crazy enough to change the world by creating things on mobile. In Hong Kong, the tech startup community is secretly growing with newly developed tech products, local startup heroes, successful entrepreneurs and up-and-coming investors; all who are making this ecosystem stronger and more complete than ever.

Who are these people? What are they making? Where will Hong Kong’s “mobile” market head next? What is happening in Hong Kong? If you are also curious about these questions, you will want to plan to attend this conference.

At the upcoming October event, Startup Saturday: Mobilliance 2013 will build on the popularity of this annual event by ramping up a new Startup Saturday every quarter to focus on a different startup vertical with ones concentrating on FinTech, eCommerce and Social Gaming coming up in 2014.

With inspirational and amazing talks, startup showcases and panels covering every aspect of the mobile Internet industry you can think of, this event will give you a panorama view of the scene – made by startups for startups.

“The past Startup Saturday events have been super popular exceeding the interest level we thought there would be,” says StartupsHK co-founder Gene Soo. “This time we are well prepared in an amazing venue with state of the art projection and lighting systems in Wan Chai!”

Over 20 successful entrepreneurs and hot local mobile startups will meet up and share their insights on the grand stage. Some experienced industry leaders are ready to give talks on the latest updates including Yat Siu from Outblaze, Mikaal Abdulla from 8 Securities, Simon Newstead from Frenzoo, and Stephen Forte from the AcceleratorHK will cover topics like:

  • How to find funding for your mobile startup.

  • What is the best platform to develop on: iOS, Android or Windows Phone.

  • Trends in upcoming mobile technologies you should know about.

  • Generating ideas for your mobile startup.

  • Developing an app for consumers or enterprise.

  • What are the most downloaded apps in Asia and why.

  • And so much more.

Attendees will cover everyone in Hong Kong interested in mobile startups: investors will be on hand to see our Top 10 Best Mobile Startups showcase for investment opportunities, other startups will get a chance to see what others are creating in Hong Kong and new entrepreneurs will get inspired and learn about the importance of having a mobile strategy for their startup.

StartupsHK co-founder Casey Lau says: “I am very happy to be able to bring together the very best of Hong Kong’s startup scene together under one roof to share and inspire as well as educate the new batch of startup entrepreneurs in Hong Kong, we want this series of Startup Saturday conferences to really put a spotlight on the amazing talent and the incredible entrepreneurs that are putting Hong Kong on the tech map worldwide!”

“Today, Asia has more mobile Internet users than the Americas and Europe combined.  A unique combination of ambitious startups, seed capital, consumer orientation and access to Greater China put Hong Kong in the center of the action. Mobile is driving a paradigm shift in both regional consumer and enterprise behavior and Hong Kong entrepreneurs will play a huge role in this change.”

  • Mikkal Abdulla, Co-Founder, 8 Securities, Hong Kong

“I still think that HK is the top mobile market in the world. We have more carriers per 1 million people than anywhere in the world, some of the world’s cheapest 3G service, and something like 150% smartphone penetration. Combine that with Facebook’s highest adoption per capita and we are the best market for mobile startups. “

  • Stephen Forte, Co-Founder, AcceleratorHK, Hong Kong’
