The Drive to Create 1000 Entrepreneurs Achieving USD1m by 2015 begins with D.A.R.E BizStart Showcase 2012. Startup businesses and small businesses encounter a lot of challenges in starting their business. It is never an easy way or any short cuts for them to achieve business success. 80% of businesses fail in the first three years of business. These businesses face many challenges and hurdles such as startup capital, partnership alignment, human resource, cash flow, business opportunities, network and other potential risks that will always pose obstacles to the business. Many businesses fail because entrepreneurs lack of knowledge, experience, skill sets, network, sales, working capital, inexperience in managing cash flows and the list goes on. But all these can be changed with the presence a business and learning platform created by a Klang Valley business incubator.
Andrew Wong, the Chief Executive Officer of MAD Incubator, sees the importance to have a platform for entrepreneurs to acquire knowledge, develop skills, keep pace of industry updates, expand business network, and so on. With that, MAD Incubator initiated the D.A.R.E. BizStart Showcase in 2011, a business startup show that featured more than 100 training/workshops, business matching, business advisory and networking activities. More than 3000 entrepreneurs attended the last BizStart Showcase which was supported by more than 100 trainers and experts who are on hand to impart knowledge, learning and business advisories.
With the presence of D.A.R.E. BizStart Showcase, would-be entrepreneurs and startups were given the opportunities to access to knowledge-enrichment seminars and skill development workshops for free. The incubator received many positive responses from participants with requests for this show to expand to other cities in Malaysia.
This year, MAD Incubator will expanded the BizStart Showcase 2012 with roadshows in Johor Bahru (Sept 20), Kuala Lumpur (Sept 27), Penang (Oct 25) and culminate with a finale in Kota Kinabalu (Nov 27 & 28). The event expansion is in line with MAD’s initiative to promote entrepreneurship development to achieve its mission of developing 1000 entrepreneurs to achieve USD1m turnover by 2015.
The roadshows takes the form of a 1-day format of focused learning activities ranging from entrepreneurship, sales and marketing, business building, network marketing, leadership management, social network marketing and funding. A mini funding forum as well as startup pitching programs are also organized to make the event a holistic affair that incorporates learning, knowledge acquisition, funding, business network expansion and business opportunities.
This year’s central theme, D.A.R.E. denotes Dream, Accelerate, Realize, and Empower respectively where each of this theme will be applied into the 4-cities road shows: Johor Bahru (20th September 2012), Kuala Lumpur (27th September 2012), Penang (25th October 2012) and Kota Kinabalu (27th – 28th November 2012). The finale will be held in Kota Kinabalu in conjunction with TEXPO.asia and this will serve as a regional event where the organizer targets on 3,000 participants from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines.
All road shows will provide talks, workshop, one-on-one business matching and business clinics for participants to attend. Exhibition and product showcase will be held simultaneously for visitors to explore local products and solutions that are available in the market.
“BizStart Showcase aim to create a community of business startups that with its strength, will help business startups to thrive and weather through difference challenges by having these businesses buying from one another,” said Wong. “This is also a good platform for local businesses to see the available local products and solutions offered by innovative startups and with their support, the business startup community will make positive contribution to the country,” he added.
Wong also urges the government agencies and corporate sector to support Malaysian startup businesses. On that note, all BizStart Roadshows and BizStart Showcase incorporate the business matching process to match business startups with potential buyer.
The D.A.R.E. BizStart Roadshows and BizStart Showcase 2012 is co-organized with Sabah Texpo, Technology Park Malaysia, Dewan Perniagaan Melayu Malaysia Pulau Pinang, Persatuan Usahawan ICT Pulau Pinang, and Borneo MAD Incubator. The event is further supported by MSC Malaysia with MOL Pay and IBM as the proud sponsors. Malaysia SME, Entrepreneurs.my and Business & Financial Magazine act as media partners. Local partners such as MSC Cyberport, Malaysian Franchise Association (MFA), Malaysia Venture Capital and Private Equity Association (MVCA), National Incubator Network Association (NINA), Mobile Interest Group (MOBIG), Sabah Techpreneur Association (SATA), WomenConnect and Entrepreneur Academy (EA) are network partners to this initiative.
“We are happy that D.A.R.E BizStart Roadshow and BizStart Showcase are getting strong support from partners and networks unlike last year,” said Wong. This year, BizStart Showcase promises to be bigger and better than 2011.
